Obituary for John (Jack) Sayle Lewis

John Sayle (Jack) Lewis passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 after a battle with lung cancer. He was born on April 28, 1927 in Johnston, SC to Archie Jefferson Lewis and Francis Pratt Andrews Lewis. He served in the U.S. Navy for several years and, while in the Navy, married the love of his life Lou Carter Lewis, to whom he was married for 66 years before she passed away in 2012. After his service in the U.S. Navy, Jack and Lou lived in Charleston for several years while Jack attended pharmacy school at the Medical University of South Carolina. They eventually moved back to Johnston where he worked and then owned Maxwell & Halford drug store. After retirement, Jack and Lou spent much of their time at the lake with friends and family. Jack will be remembered for his love of family, fishing, card games and gardening. He is survived by his two sons: John Sayle Lewis, Jr. (Anne) of Simpsonville, SC and Carter Lewis (Rena) of Colleyville, TX; his four grandchildren: Kacie Forrest (Bill), Brent Lewis, Hannah Lewis and Hayden Lewis; and dear friend Lillie Daniels. He is predeceased by his brother Archie Jefferson Lewis, Jr. and his sister Lamar Lewis Payne. His family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care provided by Darlene Hutchinson and the staff of The Springs at Simpsonville in the last few months of his life. There will be a memorial service at Johnston Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 2 pm, with interment to follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will take place Monday, June 6, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Bland Funeral Home in Johnston, SC.
